Retro Chic Fusion Sets the Tone for the New Zone ...

Restyling the top looks of yesterday to make them the current flavour of today; that  was basically the main challenge that fashion design students from PJ College of Art & Design (PJCAD) were given.

At the New Zone Fashion Show recently, the Gen Y batch of young designers simply flourished. Drawing from the elegance of 18th century Europe, Malaysia's rich Peranakan culture and quirky Japanese style, the students managed to display a heady fusion of traditional and modern elements, where East and West intermingled and cultures meshed.

The extraordinary collection of 27 stunning designs ranged from ready-to-wear to evening and avant-garde creations, which reflected the maturity of PJCAD's creative designers and their ability to lead the fashion scene with an innovative showcase.

"PJCAD's Diploma in Fashion Design & Technology programme has been tailored to develop students' ability to conceptualise and produce fashion designs which are recognised by international standards and to meet the changing needs of the global textile and apparel trade," David Liew, Chief executive of PJCAD said.

Liew added that this ensures that students will have a firm foundation in research, design methodology and practical skills in drawing, communications and fashion design.

Here are some of the designs that were highlighted at the show:
